This senior undergraduate course will consist of preparatory planning and research for an extensive field school in an area suitably diverse in natural or cultural resources to support a variety of theoretical and applied topics related to tourism management, recreation leadership, and parks management. This course directs and facilitates student involvement in international trip planning and research project proposal writing. The 2004 Field School will be in Costa Rica. Costa Rica is a world-renowned ecotourism, adventure tourism and cultural tourism destination. Costa Rica has a diverse mix of urban and rural communities, 27% of the country is conserved through the National Park system or private reserves, and its unique geography and topology make it the world's most bio-diverse country. This destination provides an excellent setting to achieve the course objectives.
