FOR PARENTS | ||||||||||||||||||||
THE PARENTS PROMISE On my honor, I will try to share my daughter's new Girl Scout interests and show appreciation for her efforts to live up to the Promise and Law; to give her opportunities to practice her new skills at home; to attend the troop events to which I am invited; and support Girl Scouting by working for and contributing to activities and funds that make Girl Scouting possible in our community. |

TROOP DUES Troop dues for this year will be $3.00 per month. This helps cover the cost of supplies, patches, and other expenses. It will also go to help cover the cost of some events. From time-to-time, events will be "pay as you go," depending on the cost. |

If your daughter will not be attending our meeting when it is her turn to bring a snack, please bring it to the meeting anyway, trade turns with someone else on the list, or call us ahead of time so that we can arrange for refreshments No girl will be denied participation on account of money. If you need financial assistance, please let Molly or Lorri know and arrangements will be made so that your daughter can participate. All financial discussions will be kept in strictest confidence. MEETINGS Meetings are held every other Friday afternoon, right after school. A schedule is posted on the calendar page. All families are asked to take turns providing meeting refreshments for the regular meetings. Please bring a healthy (non-sugary) snack and drink (water is preferred). Be sure to include cups and plates if needed. TAG-A-LONGS For many events it is just not possible to accomodate friends and family members who are not registered Girl Scouts. Many times, however, Tag-a-longs are welcome. You will be notified which activites can include children who are not troop members. From time to time, there will be activites which have a limit on the number of parents who can attend. This normally only happens for events that are held at Girl Scout camp facilities. We will try to make sure that every parent who wants to participate has the chance. Please understand, however, that sometimes this is out of our control. If you have concerns about your daughter attending an event when you can not come. Please talk to Molly or Lorri and we will try to make arrangements so that you will be comfortable having your daughter attend. |

SAFETY-WISE All activities (including meetings) will be held in compliance with the Safey-Wise ratios put forth by Girl Scouts USA. Briefly, these are: 1. Adult leaders must be at least 18 years of age. During all group meetings and related small-group activities, the leader, assistant leader, or other responsible adult designated by the leader or by the council is present, and at least one of these must be an adult female not related to the other adults. 2. There may be trips when fathers or male leaders are part of the group. It is not appropriate for males to sleep in the same space with girl members. They may participate only if separate sleeping quarters and bathrooms are available for their use. 3. Adult to Girl Ratios For meetings, two adults to every 20 Brownie Girl ScoutsPlus one adult to each additional 8 Brownie Girl Scouts For events, trips, and group camping, two adults to every 12 Brownie Girl Scouts plus one adult to each additional 6 Brownie Girl Scouts Safety-Wise also includes specific guidelines for all types of activities and transportation. As the troop moves out of the school and in to field trips and other activities, additional information will be provided to you about the safety guidelines for each type of activity. UNIFORMS Uniforms are totally optional. It is helpful, however, for each girl to have a vest as a special place to display her patches and honors. Ms. Molly loves to prepare the vests for any girl whose parents would like her to. The cost for the vest and all associated patches and hardware is about $25. If you would like to purchase other uniform items, they are available at several places. WalMart on Fry Road carries them as does Southwest Teacher's Supply. The Girl Scout store on Highway 59 at Kirby carries the most complete line. They also have some items on sale. You can also order uniforms on from the national Girl Scout store online. The Girl Scouts USA site has a good section on the uniform and its elements. Visit this link for more information. Brownie Uniforms/Insignia. |
