Troop News
The Troop Commitee has met and has reviewed plans
for the upcoming months. The troop will be focusing
on fishing, camping, music, astronomy, snow sports,
hiking, atomic energy and Space Exporation Merit badges.
To accomplish these tasks will require visitations to the
Space Museum, Lake Anna Nuclear plant, Elizabeth City
State University, Wintergreen Ski Resort and Lake
Sherando within the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Troop
was successful at summer camp this year. We attended
Camp Bonner near Washington, NC. Attending Scouts
had fun and obtained a number of Eagle required merit
badges. Also, boating, sailing and boating merit badges
were obtained. Weather was excellent. In 2002 we will
be going to summer camp at Camp Raven Knob near
Mt. Airy NC. Service Projects which we are involved
include the Adopt a Highway Campaign (Oak Stump Rd),
Foodbank and Community improvement projects.

Order of the Arrow

The Order of the Arrow is a National Brotherhood of
honored Scout Campers. The honor of being a member
is bestowed on the scout by members of the Troop not by
members of the OA. Only scouts who are not members of
the Order can vote a candidate into the brotherhood. Elections
in Troop 151 are held once a year. Tapout is at the District
Spring Camporee. What are troop members looking for in
candidates? Here are some criteria that our troop considers
important in a candidate:
*attain the rank of First Class Scout
*has camped 15 nights or more in a two year period
including a 6-day long term camp
*provides camping leadership and is an active, unselfish camper
and promotes camping in the scouting unit
*exemplifies the Scout Oath and the Scout Law
*gives service cheerfully
*has good scouting spirit
