Dear Parents,
Thanks to all of you for a great year as Daisy Girl Scouts!  We have had a good time and learned about what it means to be Girl Scouts.  Thanks to all the parents who helped along the way - it is nice for your girls to have your involvement.  A special thanks to Laura Gostowski (Madison’s mom) for all the reminder calls!

Now we will continue our Girl Scouting journey as Brownies.  We have two meetings scheduled this summer (June 23 and July 21) that are optional.  These will be held at our regular time/location - 6:30 pm at the First Baptist Church.  We will be getting input from the girls about what Try-Its sound interesting and fun to them.  With this information, your leaders will be able to put together a plan for the year based upon the girls wants and subject to parent input, which we will get at the parents’ meeting this fall.  Any ideas or help you have to offer before then are welcome.

                                                                                Jessica and Michelle

Summer Activities Closed
The activities we had planned to participate in as a troop this summer were closed prior to our enrollment.  Many of these had limits of only 30 girls from all of the Circle T Council area and filled up immediately.  The following activities are no longer on our summer schedule:  Manners (June 21); The Flowers’ Guest (July 1), Discover Your Senses (July 18), Clay Fun (July 26).  We apologize for this.

Vacation Fun!

In addition to the awards the girls earn as a troop, they are welcome to work on projects and earn Try-Its on their own.  One way of incorporating Girl Scouting into your home life is by using your family’s vacation as an opportunity for your Girl Scout to earn the Travel Right Try-It.

Scenery Scavenger Hunt - Before leaving, make a list of 10 things that you expect to see on a trip. Check off the items as you go along. If you are traveling with friends or siblings, you can each do a different list and see who gets all 10 first.

Travel Journal - Create a travel journal for your trip. Write a description of the places you went, the people you were with, and the things you did. What did you like the most about your trip? Why? Draw sketches of what you saw and did to go along with your written record. Collect souvenirs such as postcards, menus, and brochures.

Travel Song - Make up a song about traveling. Sing it with your Girl Scout troop or group, or with your family on your next trip. Make up hand gestures to go with the song.

Pack it Up! - A daypack is great for almost any trip. If you are going on a hike, take along:
· A water bottle
· A whistle - in case you get separated from your group
· A rain poncho or windbreaker
· Coins for the phone
· Sunscreen and lip protection
· A bandanna

Busy Kits - Put together a small bag of things to keep you busy on the road. Some items you might take are:
· A book (or books)
· Song sheets so everyone can sing
· "License plate bingo" cards and crayons
· Playing cards
Make sure the bag is sturdy, and that your name is written on the outside. Use it with a friend the next time you're on a bus, train, or planes, or in car

Safety Smart – Make a list of rules to follow while traveling to keep you safe.

Complete three or more of these activitis, or activities of your own, and provide the information to one of your leaders to be eligible for the Travel Right Try-It award.
