... reverent
The Scout badge was adapted from the north point of the old mariner's compass.
The design or shape (trefoil -
flower with three leaves) is often referred to as a fleur-de-lis (french for lily flower or iris flower), but it goes so far back in history that it is uncertain whether originally it was to meant to represent a flower or arrowhead.
With slight changes, the trefoil Scout badge is used in countries around the world as a mark of the Scout brotherhood of friendliness and good citizenship.
trefoil
The trefoil or shape means that a Scout can point the right way in life as truly as does a compass in the field.
The three points of the trefoil stand for the three parts of the Scout Oath. (duty to God & country, duty to others, duty to self)

two stars
The two stars on the badge symbolize the ideals of truth and knowledge. They guide you by night and suggest a Scout's outdoor life.
The eagle with shield is the national emblem of the United States of America. It stands for freedom and readiness to defend that fredom.

scroll
The scroll bearing the Scout motto is turned up at the ends as a reminder that a Scout smiles as he does his duty. A Scout is ... cheerful
knot
The knot at the bottom of the scroll represents the Scout slogan, Do a Good Turn Daily.
The aims of the Boy Scout program (as opposed to Cub Scouting, Exploring, or Venturing or other branches of Scouting) are to build character, foster citizenship, and develop fitness. The methods of Scouting we use to achieve these aims are listed below.
The Scout Oath, Law, motto, slogan, & outdoor code which boys memorize and try to live by. Our standard that society judges us.
Ideals:
Uniform:
A unique toolthat brings the troop together (since everyone dreses alike), shows membership in a world brotherhood of youth who believe in the same ideals, and lets Scouts show off their individual accomplishments (through rank badges, merit badges and other patches of recognition).
The patrol method gives scouts an experience of group living and participating citizenship. It develops leadership and teamwork abilities in a small group setting. These smaller groups determine troop activities through their representatives in the Patrol Leaders Council.
Partols:
The camping, hiking & outings of the Scouting program where Scouts share responsibilities & leard to live with one onother. The place where skills and activities practiced at trop meetings is put to the test. The part that brings most boys into scouting in the first place.
Outdoors:
The badges Scouts earn as they progress along the Scouting Trail to EAGLE. Advancement creates a challenge to all scouts by providing them with a series of obstacles to overcome. The scout is rewarded for each achievement, which helps him grow in self-confidence, self-reliance and his ability to help others.
Advancement:
The opportunity Scouts have to grow physically, mentally, and morally in the program. As scouts provide service, advance and make their individual plan for their scouting years, scouts grow as individuals and members of their community and religious organizations. The Good Turn concept is a major part of Personal Growth.
Personal Growth:
The presence of adults of good character to serve as role models for scouts to observe and also creates a setting where adults and boys ork together to achieve common goals and have fun while doing so.
Adult Association:
The many ways boys can learn and experince leadership inwhat is essentially a "Boy Run" program. Understanding the concepts of leadership helps a boy accept the leadership roles of others and guides him toward the citzenship aim of Scouting.
Leadership Develoment:
Scout motto:
Be Prepared
Scout slogan:
Do a Good Turn Daily
Outdoor Code

As an American, I will do my best to
Be clean in my outdoor manners,
Be careful with fire,
Be considerate in the outdoors, and
Be conservation-minded.
