Subject: Financial Responsibility Policy
From: Troop Committee
Learning financial responsibility is very important in the development of a scout’s character. Each scout is asked to earn his own way through the program which Troop 613 has established, not only mentally (rank advancement) but financially as well. Since we are a non-profit organization the scouts are required to support the Troop financially in the following two ways:
Annual Fee: $50.00 per scout, which must be paid by the first Troop meeting of each year. This fund is used for the scouts yearly BSA registration and insurance fee, common Troop equipment, Training and other operating expenses approved by the Troop Committee.
Monthly Dues: $3.00 per month to be paid at the first Troop meeting of each month to the Treasurer. Special Awards, Ranks and Merit Badges are purchased at the Scout Office using the money generated from this fund.
The Troop sponsors several Fund Raising opportunities during the calendar year, giving each scout the means to meet his financial obligations to the Troop. At the conclusion of a fundraiser each participating scouts individual account will be credited with the amount of money he earned. This account can be used for fulfilling both the Annual Fee and Monthly Dues requirements if a sufficient balance exists. The account can also be used for other scouting related expenses, which the scout may encounter except for food and personal equipment. Before the account can be used for any other scouting activity the scouts Annual Fee must be paid and Monthly Dues balance current, within a three-month period. If sufficient funds exist, his account will be debited for the amount owed. If sufficient funds do not exist and/or other payment arrangements have not been made the Troop has the right to limit the scout’s participation in Troop activities; these can include but is not limited to Campouts, Special Activities, Meetings, Courts of Honor, etc.
If the scout can not meet his financial obligations the responsibility defaults to the scout’s family. In the event the family is experiencing financial hardship arrangements can be made with the Troop by contacting the Scoutmaster and/or Committee Chairperson. If there are any questions concerning this policy contact the Troop Committees Chairperson or Treasurer.
