Troop 759 Activities Coordinator’s Report

January 19, 2009

Updated 1-20-09

Upcoming Events:

January 17  27 - Court of Honor – to be held at the troop meeting.

January 30 - Feb. 1 - Ski Trip – Timberline, Davis, WV – money should have been paid for this event.  Anyone needing a ride should contact Mr. Fugate or ask one of the other adults who are attending.

February 6-7 – Klondike Derby, McKeldin Area, Patapsco State Park – We are staffing the matchless fire starting station once again.  We need to submit the number of campers this week.  Do we want to send some senior boys on the adventure trail?  How about the Crew?  We’ll need to determine the roster this week and formally plan the camping and the station staffing in the next two weeks.

February 8 - Scout Sunday – Be sure to represent scouting by showing up in uniform for services.

February 16 - Day Hike [Philmont Crew Event] – this is a Monday day hike scheduled for President’s Day.

February 20-22 - Winter Cabin Camping - Brown Lodge at Camp Rodney - We need to start planning this event – sign-ups and schedule activities for the day on Saturday.  We need an adult and a boy POC for this event.   This activity requires a tour permit.

February 21 – Mall Show – If anyone is not going cabin camping and wants to hook up with the Crew for this event, please let us know.

February 28 - Scouting For Food – Bag Drop Off and Safeway Canvassing – We will be doing bag drop-off starting at 9:30 AM, but we will also be operating outside the Long Gate Safeway from 9 AM until 2 PM.   Remember, our 2009 goal is one tone of food.  We can do this!

Other Items of Note:

We tasked several boys with making recruiting calls to area cub packs.  We need a successful recruiting year to sustain our troop and give us new scouts for our older boys to lead and mentor.  We will welcome any and all involvement from parents/scouters to support this.  Expect 3-4 troop visits in the next 4-5 weeks.

I am recommending that if we can recruit 8 or more boys that we consider 2 new scout patrols.  This will take additional adult leadership, but it will provide our boys with leadership roles for two Troop Guide positions.
