June 7 – Cub Scout Olympics - The National Pike Cub Scout Olympics will be held on Saturday, June 7th, at Howard High School. For those who participated in this event last year, the plan for this year’s event is essentially unchanged from last year.
Volunteers are needed to run stations. There will be ten stations, a registration desk, and a first aid station. Each station will require two to four volunteers, and will need to be staffed from approximately 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
June 14 – Howard County Boat Float – What will the scouts come up with? Will they be nearly as ingenious as their Scoutmaster? Who will win the Titanic award? Please come by the Columbia lakefront on Saturday, June 14 and find out.
June 23-27 – Cub Scout Day Camp – Volunteers need to sign up as soon as possible and training is required for the archery and the BB range. In the past, scouts have had to be at least 14 to run the BB range. Other activities also need staff.
July 4 – Annual Columbia Fireworks Clean-Up – We are again cleaning up after the fireworks. Come watch the show and be prepared for all sorts of icky surprises. Be sure to bring waterproof work gloves.
July 12 – Fishing Derby – This event will be held at Wilde Lake. This is a "catch and release"- from the shoreline - tournament with all Maryland State and Local fishing laws in effect. Anyone 16 years old or older must have a valid 2008 Maryland State fishing license. No licenses or bait will be for sale at the tournament.
You must be registered National Pike District scout or scouter to participate in this event. Registration starts at 8:30 AM and the rules review and event starts at 9:00 AM. The cost is $5.00 per person.
We also have the following events planned – but we need adults to manage these events:
Other Notes:
Finally, now that the weather is nicer, we should make sure we can set up our archery targets and obtain permission from the church so we can schedule some target practice at meetings from late May through August.
