Clear Lake Great Hiking, great views, good advancement - this is one of our favorite places to camp! |
Every winter we try to go Cabin Camping and our best time has been in the new cabins at Clear Lake. The cabins are heated with a wonderful wood burning stove and the full-kitchen makes cooking a snap. This camp is owned by the Westchester-Putnam Council. We've been here before, and plan to have a great time again!
We'll be doing plenty of advancement - knife and ax and saw; map and compass; orienteering; knots and lashings; and much more! So bring your own compass, knife and sharpening stone if you have them. Hopefully, there'll be plenty of snow and the hike around the lake will take on a whole different aura -- as we look for animal tracks in the snow and chop through the ice at the waterfront. As always, we'll have a midnight hike (without flashlights if the moon is bright enough) and a huge bonfire at night. The trading post will be open and sells candy, sodas and patches for about $5.00. For Scouts who collect patches, this is one you'll want to get. The cooking will be "Troop Cooking" so the Senior Patrol will do the honors. The cost of food will be included in the cost of the trip. |
