Day 3-4 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Day 1-2 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
For Day 3 we started out with a morning of relaxation and preperation for the afternoon's adventure of Whitewater Rafting. We went a mile down the road from the KOA campsite, and got out rafts and jumped on a bus. When we got in the water, the rapids were actually Class 3 and 4s instead of 2s and 3s; but by the end of the 3 hour trip, it was well admired. Overall the Scouts had fun, even getting just a little wet For Day 4 we had to split into 2 groups, a morning and an afternoon group. The morning group left for about 8:30 to start their journey of Horsebacking. The morning group finished about 12:00 pm and then the afternoon started and returned about 5:00pm. We had a great time horseback riding, except for the pain and stiffness we felt from the saddles. |

We had a nice flight in to Denver; the only down side was that it started raining as soon as we landed. We had a 2 hour ride to the Air Force Base for Dinner, but did not make it in time, so we ate at Taco Bell and Arby's. We then settled in the garage in which was given to us to sleep in; but before we went to sleep, went and bowled at the Peterson Bowling Alley. The next day we got up early and ate breakfest in the mess hall. We then visited the air musuem with a variety of planes. Then we visited the Garden of the Gods, which is a region covered with huge boulders. The Air Force Academy was next on our trip, in which we watched a 20 min. movie on the Air Force. For Dinner and entertainment we stopped at the Flying W Ranch. We had a country music band and a fiddler read Cinderella. We have had a great trip so far, and will update as soon as we can. |

Day 6-7 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Day 6 started out with an early rising and breakfest. We packed up and was our way to Gunnison at about 9:00 am. We stopped and skipped a few rocks and went for a dip in resovior. We then drove to our KOA campsite in Gunnison. We played in the gameroom and drove around on 3 wheeler bikes. At about 5:30 we made our way to downtown Gunnison and attended the first rodeo of the season. Amazingly enough it was "Tough Enough to Wear Pink Night", but all of us wore our flourescent yellow shirts. We stood out the most in the whole crowd. After the Rodeo ended at about 9:00pm, we went to the carnival behind the rodeo grounds, and stayed until 10:00pm. We had another early start on Day 7, as we packed up from Gunnison, and made our way to Silverton, to take a Gold and Silver mine tour, and to do some panning. We then took another 2 hour drive to Mese Verda, and set up our tent at another KOA campsite. We went for about an hour and a half swim, in a heated pool while the outside temp. was about 90 degrees. |

Day 5 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
On Day 5 we went hiking in the morning behind our KOA campsite about 4 miles. We found a variety plants and animals. In the afteroon at about 1:00pm we went mountain biking, mostly downhill, and crossed over four old tressels. All of us made it to the bottom, but there were a few scratches after all. Then in the late evening we went to a waterfall and climbed to almost the top of it.
Day 8 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
On Day 8 we woke up and traveled to the Four Corners. We all stood in 4 states at one time, and went shopping at a flea market at the Four Corners Momument. We then traveled back to the camp for lunch, and set out again for Mese Verde National Park. We took an hour tour of the Cliff Dwellings, up and down the side of a mountain.

Days 9-11 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
On Day 9 we set out on a 4 miles hike up and down mountains, until we reached the Animas River; in which we set up camp for the next two days. On Day 10 a handful of scouts went on a 5 mile round-trip hike on the railroad tracks near the campsite, we stopped once we reached a private resort. Then later in the afternoon a few scouts went on a small hike and discovered old railroad cars and engines. On day 11 we left camp and started the 4 mile hike back out, in which we accomplish in remarkable time, due to the almost all uphill for 4 miles. For our treat for finishing so well we got a pizza for dinner, after setting up camp in Durango. |
