The inspiration for this story was the politics of 12th century England in the time of King Richard I and King John. It is a period of history I has always been fascinated with, so much so that I obtained my BA in early medieval English history. But I have also a love of fantasy, and so when I first considered writing a novel, I guess I found it only natural to combine the two.
The plot for 'The Kingship Wars' may be basic - a quest for power and the effects of love. But hopefully, when the book is finally finished, it will contain much more. I'm hoping to create a tale which is not only an interesting read, but one in which the reader can identify with the characters emotions and reasonings.
The story is set in the fictional world of Cyrillia, of which is bordered into several different realms, each governed by its own King or, in the case of the nomadic plainsmen, their own Tribal Leader. It is set around Kyriell, King of a realm known as Empyrdia, and tells of his life as ruler - his attempts to keep control of his lands, maintain order and deal with a wayward brother.
The tale also has the odd dragon and other mythical beings thrown in for good measure. (And because I like them!)
