Tor - the 'Rogue Wood Elf

"I offer you the only wealth I have - my song and my heart"

I allowed Torthalas his own page mainly because he is slightly more complicated, and I wished for room to explain more of his background.

A fighter and minstrel combined, he finds himself at Kyriell's castle during a pageant, and subsequently meets and falls in love with the same women Prince Marcus is hankering after. The rivalry that develops between elf and Prince almost destroys the kingdom Kyriell has fought hard to gain.

The Wood Elves live strictly by a code of ancient laws. Failure to rigorously follow any of them results in the offender being condemned to death. The elves believe this is a fair punishment in order to maintain their traditions. So when Tor, at the tender age of 76, breaks not one, but two of these laws, to escape an unwanted marriage and follow his lust for wandering, he knows he can never return to his people.

If asked about family members, Tor will reply he has none. In his mind, this is true. In reality, he is the middle child of lower class parents and has an older brother (Darius) and a younger sister (Edyssa).

There is a darker side to the elf though, that lurks beneath the surface of his jovial nature. He is prone to jealousy, and will determinedly (and unscrupulously) defend that which he considers 'his'. This leads to intense rivalry between him and Prince Marcus.

But this darker side tends to get overlooked in lieu of his more tender nature, which he expresses through his music. Showing an amazing perception of people, he will at times move his audience to great emotion (either tears or laughter) through his songs.

The ivy plant is the chosen symbol of the Wood Elves. For males, the transition from boyhood to adult is marked by the tattooing of a ring of ivy around the upper right arm, after the completition of a nominated feat. This is considered a honour, with the greatest shame of all being refused the right to a tattoo. Even though he has turned his back upon the elves, Tor still proudly displays his mark and delights in retelling (with considerable embellishment) the tale of the deed he performed to receive it, thus proving that he still holds some connection to the ways of his people.

Although Tor has a robust and muscular physique, his somewhat weaker elven constitution often makes him more susceptible to illness. He's also unable to consume apples, having an allergy to the fruit which causes him to break out in a blotchy rash, followed by a cold sweat.

"Never will my burning passion for you be dampened by the waters of denial. I love you too deeply, my darling"- Tor

Tall and slendor,Tor bears the characteristic fair hair and green eyes of his race. His lithe body is slightly more muscular than that of a common elf, resulting from years of wielding a sword. Carefree and confident, Tor's natural charm has given him a self-assurance that he carries well. Full of bravado, he is always prepared to follow up his words with actions, which results in trouble often following him.
