Torres del Paine National Park

Overview: I tried to hike independently off-the-beaten-path in Patagonia and was thorn-tortured for my efforts. So I resolved to make a go of the famous hiking circuit (i.e., cleared pathways) of Torres del Paine to see more of the landscape.

Pulled into Puerto Natales, found a sleeping bag and mat, met Andre of Portugal who owned a tent, bought 6-7 days worth of food.

Andre and I did the circuit in 5.5 days, walking 138.8 km in 37.5 hours. Upon conclusion of the trek I re-named Torres del Paine the "Towers of Pain."

Picture 1 is the view pulling into the park the first day. Picture 2 is me with the three granite towers. Picture 3 is the towers over a lake.

Image 4 is a great online park map. Our route: Camp Torres (sleep 1) to Camp Italiano (sleep 2) to Camp Pehoe (sleep 3) to Camp Paso (sleep 4) to Camp Dickson (sleep 5).

Image 5 is a Google Earth overview of the Torres del Paine mountain range. Glacier Grey is on the left, one of forty-eight glaciers fed by the Campo de Hielo Sur (Southern Patagonian Icefield). Starting on the far right of the image we hiked clockwise around the range.
