As with most Korean ramens this one clocks in at 4.23oz which makes for a large size bowl of noodles. I am pleased to see Ottogi got in right this time on the ingredient list. They did a great job of listing them since most imported ramens do not bother with this. The broth had a seafood smell and was a bright red which I knew what was coming, a spicy treat indeed. The broth was indeed spicy and the first sip brought sweat to my forehead. After the initial furry of spicyness a seafood depth appeared in the broth. It was not overpowering but a nice blend that made me temporary forget the intenese heat of the broth. The dehydrated veggies added some crunch and the pieces of chewy cuttlefish were a nice additon. After eating I was sweating and my nose was running and I thought to myself now thats a great ramen. Overall: 5 |
OTTOGI YEUL(HOT TASTE) |
Package Size: 4.23oz/120g Soup Base: not listed Dehydrated Mix: not listed Spicyness: 5 Comment: The entire package was in Korean so I am unable to list the ingredients. I am sure there was suppose to be a sticker with the list but this package did not get one. You do not need to be able to read Korean just by the 2 huge red peppers on the package to know what is in store for this ramen. The broth was red and the first taste numbed my lips and tongue. There was a large amount of veggies but mostly the salty, spicy flavor of the broth is what you taste. The noodles were chewy which are typical in Korean ramens. If you like spicy this ramen is for you and I do like spicy. Overall: 5 |
OTTOGI JIN RAMYON MILD TASTE |
Package Size: 4.23oz/120g Soup Base: salt, sugar, monosodium glutamate, beef extract powder, soy sauce powder(soybean, wheat, salt), hydrolyzed vegetable protein, soy bean paste, glucose, red pepper, palm oil powder, corn flour, black pepper, beef bone extract powder, garlic, onion, disodium succinate, oleoresin paprika, corn starch, cuttlefish Dehydrated Mix: green onion, seaweed, mushroom Spicyness: 4 Comment: I am not sure what "Jin" is suppose to mean but I would assume some kind of spicy beef broth. Even though this is "mild" the broth is quite spicy. The broth has a meaty, salty and spicy flavor which is a familiar flavor in Korean ramen. I was surprised by the level of spicyness, this was really spicy for a mild flavor. But none the less the broth was excellent and the noodles remained chewy throughout. Overall: 5 |
OTTOGI HOT TASTE |
Package Size: 4.23oz/120g Soup Base: salt, monosodium glutamate, sugar beef bone extract powder, red pepper, soy sauce powder(soybean, wheat, salt), beef extract powder, glucose, corn flour, black pepper, garlic, ginger, mushroom, disodium succinate, oleoresin paprika, shellfish Dehydrated Mix: green onion, carrot, mushroom, seaweed Spicyness: 4.5 Comment: Another hot flavor from Ottogi and since the "mild" version I did previously turned out to be really spicy I can only imagine what the hot flavor is going to be. After preparing the ramen the broth was a deep red color and the smell of red pepper burned my nose. After the first sip of broth there was an intense burning sensation in my mouth and the back of my throat. After that I could detect the salty beefy flavor emerge at times but mostly the intense spicyness. The noodles were the typical Korean quality, thick and chewy. This going perfect with the spicy broth. Overall there is not much that seperates the "mild" from the "hot" but this one may be a little bit hotter. Overall: 5 |
OTTOGI SNACK RAMEN |
Package Size: 3.8oz/108g Soup Base: sugar, soybean paste powder, soy sauce powder(soybean, wheat, salt), kelp extract powder, salt, roasted onion powder, onion powder, roasted garlic powder, yeast extract powder, red pepper, chili extract, roasted mushroom powder, roasted red pepper powder, dl-malic acid, succinic acid, ginger powder, glucose, green onion, brown seaweed, corn starch, black pepper, beef extract powder Spicyness: 4 Comment: The package is labeled as a snack ramen but it's not much smaller in size compared to some of my previous reviews. Ottogi being made in Korea, I expect this one to be spicy and it does not disappoint. The broth was a spicy, salty, beefy flavor with a soybean tasting background. There was actually a large amount of green onion and seaweed which is typical of Korean ramens. The noodles were chewy and held up nice in the broth. This was a fairly spicy ramen, but as with most Korean ramens not only is it spicy but there are a wealth of flavors. Overall: 5 |
