Washington DC Turkish Folk
Dance Troupe
|
 |
The Washington, D.C. Turkish
Folk Dance Troupe was created in January 1998. The goal of the group has
been to learn and perform variety of traditional Turkish folk dances to
help broaden the knowledge and understanding of Turkish culture in the
United States. The members of the group vary in experience.
 |
Some are professional dancers
from Turkey while others are first-timers. But they all
volunteer a great deal of their time and effort to ensure that they succeed
in this endeavor.
The troupe is now in its seventh
season and is busier than ever. With over seventy performances under its
belt, the group has performed in many venues, including the Corcoran Gallery
of Art, The World Bank, Virginia Beach International Festival and many
others. The troupe’s repertoire includes Adiyaman, Artvin, Bingol,
Ciftetelli, Karsilama, and Trabzon. The troupe is continually growing and
expanding its repertoire to include dances from more regions of Turkey. |
