KVOA-TV / Channel 4 / NBC
Like Baltimore's WJZ and Philadelphia's WPVI, KVOA stays on top of the news ratings by never evolving into what counld be a better product. The set is very dark and dingy with a newsroom view. However, the graphics are excellent the tenure of the on-air staff is outstanding for the market size. "Eyewitness News" airs at 6:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 5:00PM, 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM. KVOA was also the first to start 24 hour operations.

KUAT-TV / Channel 6 / PBS
KUAT is Tucson's PBS station which is owned by the University of Arizona. Local production consists mostly of nature and environmental programs.

KGUN-TV / Channel 9 / ABC
"K-Gun 9" had Tucson's best news set a few years back. They still use the same southwestern style set, although they added a view of the skyline which really doesn't blend in. The anchors are very good, but the weather staff changes more than the weather itself. KGUN is the only Tucson station that uses the "logo bug" on the bottom of the screen. "KGUN 9 NEWS" airs at 6:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM. KGUN was the last major station to begin 24 hour operations.

KMSB-TV / Channel 11 / FOX
A station with a lot of potential! However, they don't take advantage of several factors such as the large budget from their parent company (Belo) and it's lucrative position on the VHF band (although HDTV is coming). "Fox 11" has no news and that is a huge mistake. Hopefully, FOX will force them to start news. They are owned by huge Belo. Maybe they are waiting for new facilities to be built? KMSB signs off daily between 12:00 AM and 1:00 AM!

KOLD-TV / Channel 13 / CBS
KOLD is an outstanding CBS affiliate! They have the most modern facility in Tucson (about 22,000 square feet., opened in 1995), and the look and feel of local news is great! Unlike most Tucson stations, the news is fast-paced and ever-evolving. The set is a winner with a busy view of master control, a video screen and a really nice wooden desk. Graphics are even done in-house. KOLD may seem tabloidish to some and there also seems to be a revolving door at the station. KOLD does a really smart thing with their moring news and CBS This Morning, they air "This Morning" an hour earlier making the first hour making it seem like a real local AM newscast.

KTTU-TV / Channel 18 / UPN
"UPN 18" is the most standard a UPN station can get. No local news with shopping overnight. Owned by Clear Channel but controlled by KMSB via LMA.

KHRR-TV / Channel 40 / Telemundo
"Telemundo 40" is Tucson's only full-power Spanish TV station. Telemundo may be low-budget, but they do offer some pleasant alternatives to Univison.

K52AO-TV / Channel 52 / Univison
This station is the Tucson translator for the Univison station in Phoenix.
