Natchez Fencibles 12th Miss Regiment |
I've had these images for a long time, but I've neglected to place them online until now. They were shared with me by Buddy Engelhorn, a 12th Miss Regiment researcher who has done extensive study on the Regiment. I don't know the name of the person who shared the images with Mr. Engelhorn and I'm no longer able to get in contact with the Engelhorns, who lived in one of the worst hit areas of the MS Gulf Coast before Katrina. I've searched, but have been unable to find out what happened to them after the storm. Nancy |
A fragment of the Battle Flag, 12th Regt Miss Volunteers Harris Brigade, Army of Northern Virginia |
Article copied from the Natchez Democrat, June, 1882 describing the address given by Capt. F. J. V. LeCand, regarding the actions of Lieut. A. Jarvis, the flagbearer for the Regiment, during a battle in August, 1864. It reads that, when Lieut. Jarvis realized that capture was inevitable, he hid the flag in his clothing and later, after capture, he divided it into small pieces and distributed it among the men of his company. This is how the Wilson family came to be in possession of the fragment pictured above. |
