The Twin Rivers Council is made up of people in eastern North Carolina that are interested in promoting literacy and encouraging a love of reading . Vision -   The Twin Rivers Council of the International Reading Association                    advocates the advancement of literacy in the  21st century in our                        global community.  Mission - Through community outreach and the collaboration of educators,                  businesses and families, The Twin Rivers Council of the International                    Reading  Association will promote literacy and lifelong love of reading. What we do -  The Twin Rivers Council meets periodically thoughout the school                          year to share literacy and reading ideas, organize and promote                           "Reading Fun Day", facilitate the "Young Authors" and "Forever                          Young" writing contests, as well as donate books to local families                            and children. Membership in The Twin Rivers Council

Membership in the Twin Rivers Council of the International Reading Association includes membership in the North Carolina Reading Association . Annual membership dues are $15.00.  Ten dollars of the yearly dues goes to the state organization, with the remaining five being used to support the local chapter. Membership in the Twin Rivers Council is valid from June 1 through May 31. Twin Rivers Council members are also encouraged to join the International Reading Association (IRA).  The Twin Rivers Council is Council # 36910 of the International Reading Association.
