Jack Linsky, began his career in the fastener business as a distributor of stapling machines and staples in 1925. The location of his company was New York City.
By 1930 the company was incorporated and was producing its own fasteners. The company produced the "Babe" as seen to the right.
Because of the high quality of workmanship, the Speed Fastener was in real competition with the heavy hitters, like Hotchkiss, and Acme.
The corporation was replaced with a partnership in 1939. Jack Linsky and his wife, Belle, were the sole partners.
In 1946 the parent corporation was incorporated and the name of the company was changed to Speed Products Co.
Recognizing the wide acceptance of its trademark, the name of the company was changed again in 1956 to Swingline Inc.
On a personal note, this writer has always had a particular fondness for the Speed Tot. This fastener has all of the deco lines as the larger Model 3 and 4, plus a few additional colors. This will be the collectible of the future.
