THE CAMPUS CORPSE Silly and absurd, but kinda interesting
What's this doing in the horror section? Easy - a grisly title, morbid cover art and a macabre premise. You'd never know that this isn't a horror flick, except to actually watch it. I only brought it up in alt.horror because it's probably in your video store's horror sections too.
Also known as The Hazing, this is basically an off-kilter Afterschool Special, about a fraternity pledge who participates in the coverup of the death of another pledge (a young "Charlie" Martin Smith) for five very difficult days, during which he has to write the deceased's papers, say "Here!" for him in class, and date the horribly uninteresting girl who's asking too many questions.
No, this isn't I Know What You Did Last Semester. Just an exercise in watching this poor bastard jump through all these hoops to cover his and the fraternity's collective ass. The IMDb lists this as a comedy, but it ain't that, either. There's not much to say about it, except that considering the conclusion, the pieces fit together well enough that I was able to see it coming at about the 55-minute mark, and probably should have spotted it much earlier. It needed a better punchline, though.
Overall, it was watchable, even quite entertaining in parts, but nothing memorable. |
