FRIDAY THE 13th PART VII:
THE NEW BLOOD

Never thought I'd have the hots for a chick named "Lar"

A lame title, and by most accounts, a lame movie. I do have a soft spot for this one though, mostly because of its heroine, played endearingly by Lar Park Lincoln, who never really did much else.

It's been called "Jason vs. Carrie" more times than I can count. Basically, what we have is this chick who, as a girl, accidentally unleashed her psychic powers against her wife-beating dad and drowned him in Crystal Lake. As a teen, she's all disturbed n' stuff, so she, her mom, and her shrink (Terry Kiser!) jaunt off to that very lake for...oh hell, I have no idea. Anyway, it shouldn't need to be said that her shrink really wants to exploit her psychic abilities. Wouldn't you? Oh, and there's also a houseload of partying teens next door.

There are two other great things about this movie. One, the battle between this chick and Jason at the end of the film is pretty damn cool, if you ask me. She throws everything she can at him - nails, gasoline, power lines, exploding houses, even her dead dad!  And two, the makeup job on Jason (Kane Hodder's first turn at the guy, BTW) is topnotch - his spine pokes out his back, and when his mask comes off, he just looks great! I mean, awful. But well-done.

This episode marks the only time I remember Jason using a powered implement (a big circular saw on the end of a long pole). Still, the gore is almost nowhere to be seen (I've heard of a super-gory bootleg, but this movie didn't leave the impression of having been very much trimmed). Other than Lincoln, foxy chicks are nowhere to be seen. Not really much of a sense of humor. There's nudity, but I really wanted it to be from Lincoln.

Goofiest death: when one chick is tossed out of a window, and it's so, so, SO obviously a very male stunt double.

I'd say that this one is underappreciated, but by no means a very good movie. Directed by makeup/FX guy John Carl Buechler.
