SUPERSTITION How's this for a short review?
This one scores a zero on the plot, character and acting departments, but you could do worse if you?re looking for grue and gloom.
Also known as The Witch, this one concerns an unlucky family who moves into a long-condemned house with a pond out back. The pond was used to drown a witch 300 years ago, and now she's back to make life difficult for pretty much everybody, whether they're Catholic or not.
Great gore effects and deaths, like people caught in Inquisition-era machines, cut in half by windows, attacked by flying buzzsaw blades...there's even an exploding head in a microwave! The atmosphere is pretty good too, when it's not too terribly marred by the score, which is way too fun and funked-up for its own good. There's no nudity, though (damn!), and and it'd be nice if the gore scenes weren't placed so far apart.
Ah, well. It was better than most of the rest of the most recent batch of flicks I brought home this week. |
