THE WILD BEASTS
All right, more "When Animals Attack" action!
Also known as Savage Beasts, apparently. Well, what are they, wild, or savage?
Industrial sludge in "a northern European city" causes rats and zoo animals to go nuts and eat/step on people - even causing a power failure and crashing a plane! I guess the obviously Italian filmmakers didn't want anybody to think that something like that could happen in Italy.
There's some good stunts and crashes in a cool chase sequence, although it's marred by some hilariously bad dialogue (like "Look at that! That lady's not crazy, there's a cheetah chasing her!"). The animal "stunts", however, look like the genuine article (flaming rats, big cats mauling cattle) - nothing new in Eurohorror, of course, so if you're gonna watch, bear that in mind.
This is a mostly pretty silly and ineffectual movie, although I looked over at Bun while watching it and I just know he was thinking "Oh yeah. That could be me." It says something about this one when it actually tries to milk suspense out of a scene where some kids, fleeing a polar bear, leave keys in a door behind them. What's the bear gonna do, unlock the door?
A rather predictable "the animals are us" conclusion doesn't help either, especially when the rest of the conclusion consists of, well...everything just stopping.
Needed more shots of people getting mauled by cats/bears and stepped on by elephants.
