WITCHBOARD: THE POSSESSION Could've been a lot worse...
The Witchboard series isn't a particularly distinguished one, but it's diverting enough.
The movie opens with a great voice-over intro from Cedric Smith, whose voice we'll certainly all recognize, concluding with "...my name is Francis Redman. And now, I am dead." (and when we see the cancer-stricken Redman kill himself about thirty minutes into the movie, you'll wonder why he didn't just decide to go with the cancer)
The movie stars David Nerman as an out-of-work stockbroker who is introduced by his landlord (that is, Mr. Redman) to an unusual source of insider information - the Other Side! Yes, Redman's made himself wealthy with stock tips through his ouija board, and soon, it makes our hero rich too. Too bad that after Redman's death, he suffers a freak accident which results in his soul being imprisoned in a mirror, and, well, the rest of the movie you can figure out from the title.
The heroines of the first two Witchboard movies basically got by on their tits, but this one, Locky Lambert, seems to be able to marginally act. Performances are adequate all around, actually.
The effects are always good too - either stellarly done (the morphing is unusually good) or at least quite imaginative (like the "separation" sequence).
Of course, when you get right down to it, this is a predictable-as-hell straight-to-video horror sequel, but at least it's got some foxy women, nifty effects and a number of enjoyably cheesy moments (like when one guy is attacked by his butterfly collection).
