BAHRAIN PHILATELIC SOCIETY

 

 

Brief history of the BPS:

 

The establishment of Bahrain Philatelic Society was officially announced in the Government’s monthly magazine on April 3rd, 1980 by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

 

The society embodies a large population of Bahraini philatelist as well as non-Bahraini residents in Bahrain. They were joined by other hobbyists who carried with them cultural, and historical interests upon which the society expanded to include the following:

 

  1. The hobby of collecting ancient artifacts.
  2. The hobby of collecting telephone cards
  3. The hobby of collecting bank notes and coins
  4. The hobby of collecting historical documents which tell the stories of our exquisite history.

 

The society’s journey was led by men with belief and faith in volunteer work as well as the determination to maintain the spirit, enthusiasm interest of collectors for the past two decades. With the dawn of the new millennium, they have surged forward with energy once again in organizing lectures, monthly meetings with the wise assistance and leadership represented by his excellency undersecretary Sheikh Mohammed bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa. To have a permanent home location for the philately to increase the society activities and the foundation base to include students from government and private schools by establishing creditable philately clubs under the supervision of the society participated in all the GCC exhibitions for the past 7 years where they exposed their participants to the challenge of the new millennium under a new society administration guided with the spiritual support from the society and the government’s administration concern.
