Programme Guide

Outline:
The first episode was shown on Channel 4's opening night and has proved a great success ever since.
It was set around a small cul-de-sac in the fictional Manor Park area of Liverpool. The series followed the families that live on Brookside Close and work in the Parade.
Although the series finished in 2003, the present official web site states that the soap will return in 2005. In what format is yet to be seen.

Details

• Creator Phil Redmond states that when the soap finishes on Channel 4, a special DVD release about the drugs siege at the end of 2002 will be produced. If successful then a series of DVD's could be released.
  
• On 11th October 2002, Channel 4 (the broadcaster) announced that by the end of November the evening, weekday episodes would be dropped and only the Saturday afternoon episode would stay. This was the marking of the end to this 20 year old soap.
  
• Brookside was Britain's first soap to be set entirley on location. No studios wre used.
  
• 4.1 million viewers tuned in to watch the first weeks two epiosdes.
  
• Mersey Television brought 13 houses on a new housing estate, three houses were uesd for administration, three for their technical block (editing etc...) one for catering and the rest for the fictional families.
  
• The series was orginally to be called Manor Park but there was a series of a smiliar name at the time. Executive Producer Phil Redmond took the new name from a brook running along side the small housing estate.
  
• The Jordache trial in the early ninties brought in viewers of up to 9 million. The highest the soap and Channel 4 had managed up to that time.
  
• There was a short spin-off series, a 'soap bubble' which followed Damon and Debbie for three weeks until Damon's death.
  
• The lesbian kiss with Beth Jordach was voted the 59 greatest TV moment in the Channel 4 programme '100 greatest TV moments of all time'.
  
• The Queen managed to meet some of the cast in Liverpool in 1999.
