Nice to find a mention of this Thames Tv series it was a real joy to watch in the afternoons and i think it was an accurate portrayal of what it might have been like to work in a small fashion business in the 1980's in covent garden which gave the series a slightly glamorous image , my two favourite programmes at the time were gems and the fashion show , i would watch gems in the afternoon as i worked from home designing jewellery with the help of the enterprise allowance in Thatchers Britain after being made redundant , strangely i went on to work as a jewellery designer in the fashion industry and gems was a bit of an inspiration at the time . I suspect all the aussie soaps were the rage at the time so gems never got a prime time slot i think it would have become a popular series . I dont know what became of any of the actors or actresses although i think i saw one of the brothers in a vodka advert about ten years ago . Gems appealed to me at the time there were always plenty of cliff hangers , its a shame they dont make them like that anymore .
