Outline:
This was the BBC's first stab at soap following the Groves (named after the BBC's Lime Grove studios).
The family had just paid off their 20 year mortgage (repayments of £13 8s a month) and now the head of the family was just starting his own building business.
After its first year the show was getting 9 million viewers, around twenty five percent of the British population were tuning week and the BBC started to recieve letters from the public asking Bob Grove for quotes for jobs and slimming advice for his with Gladys.
The Queen Mother, while on a visit around the studio's, stated that she was a fan of the series calling the family 'so English, so real'.
When the two orginial writers father and son duo Michael Pertwee and pa, decided to take a short break, the BBC decieded to call a halt to the show much to the amazment to the Pertwee's and the audience.
