Programme Guide

Outline:
Set in Midlands, this soap focused on a fictional football club Brentwich FC run by Gerry Barford (David Lodge).
Gerry's main aim was to move th club from the bottom of the Second Division but had to cope with a tycoon chairman and a snooty wife.
As the series continued there were complaints that there wasn't enough of the game and too much tittle-tattle. Jimmy Hill, then Coventry City's boss, was hired to vet the scripts
Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, who were struggling at the time, complained that the plots were awkedly close to their situation and the BBC had to reassure that it was pure coincidence.
In February 1966, seven of the cast were dropped and new writers brought in, the series portrayed Gerry Barford getting the sack after actor David Lodge had asked to leave. Mark Wilson (Ronald Allen) took over.
After a constant 6 million viewers, the BBC had expected more so the series was cancelled the following March, 1967.

I found your Internet webpage about TV-Serials.
I found the Infos about "United"(1965).
You didnt include the English actor JOHN BRESLIN at your cast members list, he played nearby a leading role in that TV-Soap.
JOHN BRESLIN was BOB MCIVER in this TV-Soap "UNITED"(1965).
Im a good friend of JOHN BRESLIN and he is now 77 years but in good health conditon. He lives in Teddington,London. I made research for him about all the movies he worked in. So i found your wounderful website.
I will ask you if you Please include him to the cast members list. He loved to be in that serial and he enjoyed very much when people will do the same.
John Breslin played also in Dr.Who, Upstairs/Downstairs, U.F.O.,Danger Man War and Peace, Vanity Fair and many many more.
Did you have any infos about the BBC Tv-Serial "CURTAIN OF FEAR"(1964) ?? John played there PETER LINTON with George Baker in a leading role.
If you want i can ask John if you can Interview him about his TV-Serials ?? Or if you can write him and ask him some questions. I often call him by phone and he is often here by me on holiday.

Ronald Allen also appeared in Compact and Crossroads.
Harold Goodwiin who played Horace Martin went onto play Joss Shackleton in Coronation_Street.
Arthur Pentelow went on to star in then named Emmerdale Farm and Coronation_Street.
Stephen Yardley who was the goalkeeper Kenny Craig also appeared in Family Affairs, Howards' Way.
Gerry Davis who wrote eposides also wrote for 199 Park Lane and Coronation Street.
