VARIA SUIT
The Varia Suit is what you start the game with, and later on you'll find it has the ability to withstand extreme temparatures. Not to mention it looks extremely cool. That's about it.

POWER SUIT
The power suit is what Samus is left with after her encounter on the space station. Although still reducing injury, it lacks the ability to withstand these extreme temperatures, and doesn't look as cool.
