The Ultimate Sports Grillers returned to action on Saturday night and defeated the Austin Blue Sox 5-1 in an exhibition game at Dick Putz Field. The Grillers pounded out eight hits in the game, led by Brent Schloe, who went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Andy Waletzko finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Ryan Quinn added an RBI-single to aid the effort. Paul Eich picked up his third straight win on the mound, pitching his first complete game of the summer. He allowed just the one run on four hits, two walks, and he struck out seven.
The Grillers jumped out early in the bottom of the first when Aaron Rocheleau's sacrifice fly scored Casey Haugen to take a 1-0 lead. Ultimate added another run in the third when Waletzko singled home Schloe from second. Austin scored their lone run in the top of the fourth to cut the lead in half, but a three run fifth for the Grillers put the game out of reach. In that inning, Waletzko singled home Schloe again from second, Ryan Quinn singled home Waletzko, and Quinn scored from third on an error. Neither team scored after that and the Griller defense made no errors in the game to help pick up the victory.
