The Ultimate Sports Grillers defeated the Brainerd Bees 5-1 in the first round of the Region 7B playoffs on Thursday night in Brainerd. The game was suspended after Wednesday night due to rain with the Grillers leading 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Aaron Rocheleau led the Griller offense, going 2-for-3 with a double, run scored, and two RBIs. Casey Haugen went 2-for-3 with a run scored, Jason Kotschevar scored two runs, and Andy Waletzko added a 2-run double as the Grillers pounded out nine hits in the game. Chad Schwegel picked up the complete game victory on the mound, allowing the one run on eight hits, six walks, and nine strikeouts.
The Grillers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Kotschevar singled, Brent Schloe walked, Rocheleau singled home Kotschevar, and Waletzko doubled home Schloe and Rocheleau. After the game resumed from the previous night, the game remained scoreless until the fifth inning, when the Grillers struck again. Kotschevar walked, moved to second on a groundout, and scored on Rocheleau's double down the left field line to make the score 4-0. Brainerd scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh on a walk and two hits, but the Grillers got that run back in the top of the eighth when Casey Haugen walked, stole second, moved to third on a fly out, and scored on an error.
