After losing their last five games, the Ultimate Sports Grillers responded with a decisive 8-1 Lakewood League victory over the Freeport Black Sox on Sunday night at Dick Putz Field. Brent Putz provided the offensive spark, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Andy Waletzko added a 3-for-4 effort and Mike Holman and Brent Schloe chipped in 2-for-5 performances. Jason Kotschevar doubled and drove in two runs as well. The Grillers finished with 13 hits in the game. On the mound, Aaron Rocheleau picked up his first amateur win after allowing one run on just three hits, eight walks, and six strikeouts. Jason Wald pitched the final two innings of relief to secure the win.
The Grillers got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning on a wild pitch that scored Putz from third base. Ultimate added three more runs in the fifth inning on a double by Kotschevar that scored Putz, Rocheleau reaching on an error that scored Kotschevar, and a single by Wald that scored Rocheleau. Freeport came back with their lone run in the top of the sixth after a walk and a double. The Grillers responded, though, in the bottom of the sixth with Putz' first home run of the season (and as a Griller). Ultimate added two insurance runs in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Kotschevar that scored Lincoln Haugen and a double by Schloe that scored Holman.
