Game Summary

The Ultimate Sports Grillers won their opening game of the 2005 Nick Bell Classic in Cold Spring on Friday night, defeating the Hamel Hawks 8-4.  The Grillers pounded out nine hits in the seven inning game.  Leading the offense was Mike Holman, who went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, two runs scored, and three RBIs.  Jason Kotschevar went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Brent Putz had a double and two RBIs, and Brent Schloe hit a two-run home run to aid the effort.  On the mound and making his first start of the summer, Jason Wald pitched six innings to pick up the victory.  He allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits, five walks, and four strikeouts.

The Grillers fell behind 1-0 after two innings, but came back with two runs in the top of the third on an RBI-double by Putz that scored Ryan Quinn and an RBI-single by Kotschevar that scored Holman.  Hamel tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an unearned run, but the Grillers came right back with four runs in the top of the fourth.  With two outs and the bases loaded, Putz was hit by a pitch that scored Aaron Rocheleau from third and then Holman hit a fly ball to right that was lost in the night and landed for a double to score Casey Haugen, Quinn, and Putz.  Hamel got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 6-4, but with Holman on first base, Schloe put the game out of reach by smacking a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh.
