The Ultimate Sports Grillers defeated the Litchfield Blues 8-7 on Sunday night at Optimist Park in Litchfield. Ultimate pounded out 18 hits in the game and jumped up 6-0 early on the Blues, only to hold on with the tying run on third in the bottom of the ninth. Casey Haugen and Ryan Schneider both finished 4-for-5 in the game; Haugen scored twice and drove in a run and Schneider drove in two runs. Mike Holman, Jason Kotschevar, and Jason Wald all finished 2-for-5 and Lincoln Haugen went 2-for-4. Holman had two runs and an RBI and Kotschevar had two RBIs and a run. Aaron Rocheleau started and went 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits, seven walks, and two strikeouts. Holman picked up the first save of the season for the Grillers in the ninth.
In the top of the first, Holman scored from second on Brent Schloe's fielder's choice and subsequent error. Schloe then scored on Casey Haugen's single to left to make the score 2-0. In the second, Holman doubled home Lincoln Haugen and Kotschevar doubled home Brent Putz and Holman. Aaron Rocheleau then singled home Kotschevar to give the Grillers a 6-0 lead. Litchfield scored a run in the second and three more in the third to make the score 6-4. The Blues scored again in the sixth to pull within a run, but the Grillers got that run right back in the seventh on Schneider's infield single that scored Casey Haugen from third with two outs. Ultimate added a much-needed run in the top of the ninth on Schneider's fourth hit of the game that scored Casey Haugen from second. Litchfield scored twice in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run on third and winning run on first with two outs, but Holman got the next batter to foul out to first to end the game.
