The Griller bats came to life on Sunday as they pounded out 16 hits and defeated the Maple Lake Lakers 12-2 on a hot and humid day in Maple Lake. The Grillers trailed 1-0 going into the fifth inning, but scored 11 times in the inning on nine hits thanks in large part to a two-out error that led to six unearned runs. Mike Holman and Brent Schloe led the way, going 4-for-5 each with a double and two RBIs. Holman also scored two runs and Schloe scored one. Jason Kotschevar added two 2-run doubles to finish 2-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Aaron Rocheleau went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored, Andy Waletzko finished 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, and Brent Putz was 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Aaron Rocheleau got the win on the mound, going five innings and allowing both runs, one earned, on five hits, four walks, and five strikeouts.
After trailing 1-0 again after an inning, the Grillers broke out for 11 runs in the top of the fifth inning. After a leadoff out, Putz walked, Holman singled, and Kotschevar doubled them both home. Schloe followed with a double to score Kotschevar, Rocheleau singled, and Waletzko singled Schloe home. After the second out of the inning, Ryan Quinn reached and advanced to second on an error that scored Rocheleau and moved Waletzko to third. Lincoln Haugen walked to load the bases and Putz followed with a single to score Waletzko. Holman doubled to score Quinn and Haugen and Kotschevar doubled to score Putz and Holman for the second time in the inning. Schloe singled to score Kotschevar, but was thrown out at stretching at second to end the inning. The Grillers batted 14 guys in the inning and Holman, Kotschevar, and Schloe all had two hits in the frame. Maple Lake scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 11-2, but the Grillers came back with a run in the top of the sixth on Waletzko's RBI-single that scored Rocheleau from second. The game was called after seven innings due to the 10-run rule.
