The Ultimate Sports Grillers lost 4-3 in 13 innings to the O'Hara's Saints on Sunday afternoon at Dick Putz Field in their first game of the season. The Grillers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on an RBI-single by Brent Putz to score Jason Kotschevar, but O'Hara's tied it in the bottom of the fourth inning on a bases loaded balk. Ultimate grabbed the lead in the top of the fifth after Mike Holman doubled and Casey Haugen singled him in with two outs. However, O'Hara's came right back in the bottom of the seventh with a run of their own on a sacrifice fly. The game remained scoreless until the top of the 10th inning when Casey Haugen singled, stole second, and scored on Brent Schloe's RBI-double. O'Hara's again tied the game in the bottom of the 10th on an error and had the bases loaded with only one out, but Mike Holman was able to work himself out of the jam. In the bottom of the 13th inning, a walk, a sacrifice, a long fly ball to move the runner to third, and a Griller error resulted in the game-winning run for O'Hara's.
The Grillers managed just eight hits in the game. Andy Waletzko finished 3-for-6 with a double, and Casey Haugen went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI to lead the offense. Paul Eich, making his first amateur start for the Grillers, worked the first six innings, allowing just one run on three hits, walking four, and striking out two. Mike Holman worked the next four innings, allowing two unearned runs on four hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. Andy Waletzko picked up the tough loss, going 2 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run, walking four, and striking out one.
