The Ultimate Sports Grillers fell 4-2 to the Saint Joseph Saints on Thursday night at Schneider Park in Saint Joseph in Lakewood League action. The game was being made up from a May 25th rainout. Ultimate collected eight hits in the game, but made three errors and had poor timely hitting as they left runners on base in several key situations. Brent Schloe went 3-for-4 and scored a run, Aaron Rocheleau was 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Casey Haugen was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the offense. Paul Eich picked up the tough loss on the mound after going 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits, two walks, and striking out three.
Saint Joseph scored first in the bottom of the second and added another run in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead. However, the Grillers responded with two of their own in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Haugen that scored Schloe and an RBI-single by Ryan Quinn that scored Rocheleau. On that same play, Jason Wald was thrown out at the plate in an attempt to give the Grillers the lead, but instead the game was tied at 2-2. In the bottom of the sixth, the Saints scored an unearned run to take the lead at 3-2 and they added another run in the seventh to finish the scoring for the game.
