Game Summary

The Ultimate Sports Grillers went two and out in the Dewey Tauer Classic held in Red Wing over the weekend.  The Grillers fell 6-5 in 10 innings to the Shakopee Indians on Friday night.

The Grillers were supposed to take on the Shakopee Indians at 8:30 pm, but an 18-inning game between the Red Wing Aces and the Cold Spring Springers pushed the game back to 11:30 pm.  The Grillers jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead after four innings, but their bats went silent over the last six innings and they were held to just one hit.  Ultimate scored two unearned runs in the top of the first on a fielder's choice by Aaron Rocheleau that scored Mike Holman and Brent Schloe scoring from third on a throwing error as Rocheleau stole second base.  Chris Nordmann singled home Ryan Quinn in the top of the second, Jason Wald doubled home Rocheleau in the third, and Schloe had an RBI-groundout to score Holman in the fourth.  Shakopee scored three times in the sixth to make the score 5-4 and with one out and one on in the bottom of the ninth and Holman pitching in relief of Chad Schwegel, both umpires missed seeing the next batter get beaned across the front of his jersey.  The ball went to the backstop and everyone played it like a dead ball except the base runner, who went to third on the wild pitch.  The same batter then got a broken bat single over the drawn in infield to tie the game.  In the tenth, Shakopee got a two-out, infield single on a very close play at first, a stolen base, and a base hit to win the game.  Jason Kotschevar was the only Griller with two hits, going 2-for-5.  Schwegel allowed four runs (three earned) on 12 hits, one walk, and struck out nine in his seven innings of work, but Holman took the tough loss.
