Big Smo comes to us from Shelbyville, TN with his new compilation album on Yayoda Records. The album features the likes of middle Tennessee artists Yung G.O., Lil Felon, Crystal, & Lil Smurf.
1. Big Smo's Kuntry Kitchen-- just an intro
2. Killa (f/ Shotyme, G.O., Lil Felon, & Crystal)-- this track has a little dark, gonna jump-ya-in-the-dark beat. Big Smo has a gruffy voice that reminds me of Magic of the 504 Boyz. He comes with a couple of tight verses but to me, the standout artist on the track is G.O. He's got a lot of talent and sounds really polished for a virtual unknown. Nice track to start the album off with.
3. Kuntry Cold Korner Boy (f/ G.O. & Lil Felon)-- this track has a midtempo beat. Big Smo starts the track off with a little verse about being from the country. G.O. is up next with another nice verse while Lil Felon ends the song off with a tale of the 6th Ward. It's got a nice tempo that makes it a bumpable track.
4. Ride With Me (f/ Shotyme, Lil Felon, & C-Mo7)-- this track is one of those that'll make you wanna smoke a couple of blunts and don't give a fuck songs. For some reason, the vocals aren't all that on this track. It almost seems like the music is in the foreground while all the vocals are in the background. Otherwise, it's a decent song.
5. Waste Of Time-- this track has a little piano/keyboard sound mixed in over a midtempo beat that's not all that tight. Big Smo doesn't rap with that gruffy voice that was seen earlier while droppin verses about wastin his time praying because all hope is gone anyways. I'm not quite feelin this track as much.
6. 931 (f/ G.O.)-- this is one of those rep yo city type tracks. Big Smo declares himself as the founder of the new South while showing love to his city and area code. It's a nice Dirty South track that you can ride to and bump.
7. Super (f/ G.O. & Lil Smurf)-- this track has a nice slower midtempo beat that you can bob ya head to. G.O. starts the track off with a tight verse and is starting to stand heads-and-shoulders above the rest of the crew. Big Smo also comes correct on the mic with a tight verse of his own. G.O. finishes it off with another nice verse. Very tight track here.
8. What's The World Comin 2 (f/ Lil Felon & G.O.)-- this track has another midtempo beat. Big Smo starts the track off with a decent verse. Lil Felon comes next but doesn't come with anything spectacular. G.O. drops a nice verse to end the song. It's a bumpable track worth givin a listen to.
9. What Can I Do (f/ G.O. & Lil Felon)-- this track has a slow piano laced beat with the words "what can I do" being whispered throughout the song. Big Smo comes with a nice verse to start it off. G.O. comes with an all right verse but not as tight as he's been on previous cuts. It's a pretty nice track overall.
10. Cold Gray Day (f/ G.O., Lil Felon, & Crystal)-- this track has a slow, melancholy piano laced beat that puts you in a somber mood right off the bat. Big Smo raps about those who got lost in the struggle of everyday life. G.O. redeems himself on this cut with a slow verse. Lil Felon does a decent job as well on his verse. Very nice track.
11. Cruel World (f/ Shotyme)-- this track has another dark eerie beat to it. Both Big Smo and Shotyme do a nice job rappin on this one. Nice song.
12. Three Fold-- this track has more of a faster midtempo flavor to it with horns mixed in. Big Smo doesn't really come all that tight on this one and the beats are a little lacking as well. Not feelin this track too much.
13. Fresh Sack-- skit about washin your sack....I kid you not.
Overall, I thought the album wasn't that bad. Yung G.O. definitely stands out more than any of the other artists on here with his smooth Southern delivery that reminds me a little of Pimp C of UGK. I thought Big Smo should rap in that rougher, gruffy style on every track instead of changin it up every now and then because it gives him a unique voice instead of sounding like every other white rapper trying to come up in the game. The beats were lacking at times on the tracks but that can be fixed. The talent is there...all they need is a chance to shine.
