LT Dilla - Ghetto Scriptures

LT Dilla hails from Chicago but he doesn't fit the stereotypical Midwest mold of other bigger names from the Second City. The former member of the rap group Figure Uv Speech bring us his new album featuring Will Malone, Special, King James, Damon, D-Bow, Kit, Juice, Animal Kingdom, & more.

1. Intro

2. No, No, No-- this track has an old skool East Coast beat similar to Kanye West's sampling style on the boards. LT Dilla spits venom for the streets lettin them know how it is on the streets of the Chi. Tight song but would have been better without the interludes throughout the track.

3. Money Clip (f/ Will Malone & Tray from Block 1)-- this track has a gangsta mobbin beat that is really nice. They rap about how everyone works and hustles to make that chedda. Tight song.

4. Ghetto Life (f/ Special)-- this track has a slow laid back ridin beat. LT Dilla brings a smooth flow that is tight as fuck describing life in the hood filled with smokin, drinkin, robbin, and fuckin.

5. I Just Wanna (f/ Damon & D-Bow)-- this track has more of an uptempo dance club bounce beat. The hook goes "I just wanna stack c-notes - I just wanna drink and smoke". LT Dilla comes with an impressive flow on this one as well.

6. Keep Steppin (f/ Tray from Block 1 & Special)-- this track has a funky blues guitar and bassline beat. LT Dilla raps about giving his girl the boot when she's expecting to live off his money. Not feelin this one too much.

7. Bounce (f/ Damon)-- this track has an old skool vibe to it. LT Dilla doesn't come with that tight of a flow on this one. You won't miss much if you skip it.

8. Keep It Gangsta (f/ King James)-- this track has a laid back beat consisting of hi-hats and a thumping bassline. LT Dilla is back with a tight flow on the mic that'll have ya head bobbin. Nice song.

9. Hard Hat-- this track has a bell and drumbeat with lots of sound effects in the background. LT Dilla raps about how hard Chi-Town really is. Not feelin this one too much.

10. Scrilla-- this track has a computerized robotic beepin beat over a bassline. The hook is basically just chantin "scrilla, scr-scr-scrilla don't sleep". The beat could be better but it's a track worth checkin out.

11. Chi-Town Riders (f/ Juice)-- this track has a stuttering Kanye West-like beat with an old skool vibe. They're rapping about runnin and ruling the streets of Chi. Decent track.

12. Roll Wit Me (f/ Will Malone & Meesak)-- this track uses a lot of sampling at the beginning of the song. Neither LT Dilla, Will Malone, nor Meesak come with any tight flows on here and the beat isn't anything to write home about either.

13. Hide Out-- tight lil piano beat with a thumping bassline. LT Dilla brings a nice flow and some decent punchlines. The chrous could be a little better but overall it's a bumpin song.

14. Blakka (f/ Kit & Mozart)-- Kit starts it off with a nice verse in his raspy voice. Mozart drops a tight verse as well. Bumpin song well worth checkin out.

15. We Must (f/ Wendy)-- weaker beat on this one. LT Dilla doesn't really come all that nice on here. The hook reminds me of the Tracy Morgan "Osmosis Jones" spaceman skit on Saturday Night Live. Skip it.

16. Ridiculous (f/ Animal Kingdom)-- simple midtempo old skool beat on this one. LT Dilla starts it off and does a good job with his verse. Animal Kingdom rap the next couple of verses and do a great job as well. Tight flows.

17. How We Doin It (f/ Special)-- this track is just a flossin song about cars, rims, and money. Not feelin it all that much.

18. To My-- this track again gives you that old skool vibe on the beats. LT Dilla raps to all the thugs, hustlas, and lost ones to keep holdin it down. Nice way to end the album off.

Overall, the production by Xtreme, Cool Out Chris, LT Dilla, Styx McGraw, Emax, Tray, and Reg Vader are decent with Xtreme being the standout producer. He shows that Kanye West is not the only one from Chicago with skills (considering that he has produced songs for Jay-Z, DMX, Dr. Dre, Musiq, & more). LT Dilla comes with decent flows throughout the album while Kit from Animal Kingdom also displays some nice skills. Nice effort but with better beats, the album could have been twice as nice. I look forward to hearing the follow-up from this up-and-coming rapper from Chi-Town.
