Shy One - Emotionz Detached
Reviewed By: ULTIMATECDLINK
Album Rate: 4.25 out of 5 Stars

Shy One has amassed a nice underground following over the years and now he looks to expand his fanbase even further with his new 18 track CD. It features the likes of Dosia Demon, Fritenite, Keepa, Mysta C, Evil Empire, Sinister X, Badmind, Pete G, Maggot Wrist, Pugg, Creep Lo, Alpha, & Omega.

1. Endless Aisle (Intro)-- creepy intro that sounds like some Tales From The Crypt shit at the beginning.

2. Pain Inside (f/ Mysta C)-- this track has more of those dark, laid back devilish beats and some tight flows that are reminiscent of the early Three 6 Mafia days. Great start to the album.

3. Mystic Illusions (f/ Evil Empire)-- this track also has a tight ass, laid back beat that'll have ya bobbin your head. The flows are fast and furious and the tongue twistin is almost hypnotic in the way that it makes you wanna keep playin the track over and over. Absolutely one of the tightest tracks I've heard.

4. Faces So Pale (f/ Badmind & Sinister X)-- this track starts off creepy with a girl screaming and moans and groans almost straight from a haunted house. This track makes you feel like you sold your soul to the devil after listening to it. It's an all right track but the tappin ain't all that tight on it.

5. In My Blood Pt. 2 (f/ Dosia Demon & Keepa)-- this track has another dark, laid back beat. Dosia Demon comes pretty tight on the mic with his rapid delivery. Shy One also brings a nice verse to the table. It's a tight song.

6. Emotionz Detached-- this track starts off with a guitar beat that almost sounds like it's about to break into a rock version of "Born In The USA". This rappin on this one is a lot slower and all the screamin in the background mixed with all the overall "cult" feel of the song just didn't do it for me.

7. Tearing Guilty Skin-- this track has another fire beat and more flows reminscent of the old Three 6 Mafia underground days where they tongue twisted. Another very nice song.

8. The Signs (f/ Pete G)-- this track has yet another great dark, laid back beat. Shy One comes nicely on his verse but Pete G sounds more like a rabid animal on his verse. There seems to be a hidden track at the end of the song that contains a little snippet of a more uptempo track.

9. Side Trips (f/ Maggot Wrist & Pugg)-- this track has a more funky beat and the rhymin sounds more like screamin on a rock rap song at times. Not really feelin this one because neither the beats nor the flows are that tight.

10. Underworld Confusion (skit)-- nothing but screaming from what seems like it was straight out of a horror movie before the bassline kicks in

11. Curse-- this track has a nice midtempo beat but I could do without all the demonic chanting in the background. The flows on this one aren't as tight as on previous tracks but it's still a solid effort.

12. Sleep Tight (f/ Fritenite)-- this track has a melodic piano laced beat over a faster bassline. The verses at the beginning of the track don't seem to mix well with the beat but as the song moves along, the flows come together nicely.

13. Horrornite (f/ Fritenite, Dosia Demon, & Keepa)-- the track starts off with a news clip of a little girl finding six dead bodies. All of the rappers come with some tight verses and make this one of the best tracks on the album.

14. Wrong Beliefs (f/ Pete G & Rotten)-- this track starts off with chants of "angels" and "demons"...almost like when you have the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other when trying to make a decision. Decent flows on this one make the track bumpable but the track kinda drags along toward the end.

15. My Apologies-- this track is another dark track in which Shy One apologies to his family and friends for the pain he's caused and how he'd die for them. It's another bumpable track.

16. Down From The Town-- nothing but some loops on this one

17. Falling Angel (f/ Fritenite & Creep Lo)-- this track brings more of the same in terms of the dark, laid back beats and the tight flows to complement it.

18. Where I'm From (f/ Alpha & Omega)-- this track has a piano laced beat and is basically them reppin their area code. The hook isn't great and some of the verses aren't that great but overall, still a track worth checkin out.

Overall, the production by Shy One was on point for the most part. I was really impressed with the album because the beats and flows were top notch for the most part. Not much variety in terms of the beats though but Shy One's style is the darker, devilish sound. The album has a very distinctive Memphis influence to it and is highly recommended for anyone who is a fan of the underground, devilish, tongue-twistin Three 6 Mafia sound of the past. Definitely a nice album worth adding to the collection. Check out www.mp3.com/djshy1 for order info and sound clips.
