History
The famous German engine-building company was one of
the first to produce operational jet engines during WWII.
The BMW 109-003 jet powered two well known planes that
took part in a few Luftwaffe combat operations - He.162
and Ar.234.
Besides the pure engine R&D work, the company was res-
ponsible for several "hi-tech" jet aircraft designs - both fighters
and bombers. All of them were designed around three BMW
turbojet and turboprop engines: BMW 003, BMW 018 and
BMW 028.
The TL-Jager III was to be powered by a single .003 unit
(800kp), had two tail booms with the armament of 2xMk.103
guns in the roots. The wing area was 19mē, the take-off
weight was 2,800kg.
