We hope you'll join us on the NKU campus February 26, 2005 at 9am for our Twelfth Annual Northern Kentucky History Day. Tickets will be $8 at the door - $6 in advance. There will be a main speaker and two workshops you may attend from a selection of eighteen different workshop subjects offered. James Duvall from the Boone County Public Library, Scheben Branch, Union, will be speaking on "Early Excavations at Big Bone Lick."
The goal of Northern Kentucky History Day is to encourage a greater understanding and appreciation for our shared history here in Northern Kentucky. The speakers are carefully chosen to represent a wide array of specializations including art history, anthropology, archeology, historic preservation, race relations, and military history, to name just a few. We are fortunate to have many NKU faculty members volunteer to present workshops each year as well as specialists from the region including Dave Schroeder from Kenton County Public Library, and Charles Backus and Ken Williams from the Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort. Northern Kentucky History Day is co-sponsored by Northern Kentucky University, the Historical Confederation of Kentucky (HCK), and many historical societies and heritage groups of the Northern Kentucky region including Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Carroll, Fleming, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Lewis, Mason, Owen, Pendleton and Robertson counties.
In addition to a wide range of presentations by local scholars and practitioners, we also offer several how-to seminars that appeal to family historians and history buffs. History Day provides genealogy workshops for the advanced and novice family historian and other workshops on preserving family treasures. In 2004, we were fortunate to have a panel of NKU historians discussing the pitfalls and rewards of producing family oral histories. And while Northern Kentucky History Day workshops and lectures are both stimulating and informative, many attendees spend time browsing through the huge display area where local vendors, presses, and historical societies present items for purchase and provide information about local historical sites.
