Birkin Cars/TVR Invitational Race - Kyalami (ZA), January 29th 1995

Race Report
- by Fred Breton:This race held in South Africa in January 1995 was a great success. The event was promoted by John Watson (father of driver Stephen, not the ex-F1 star) with 18 cars entered. Competitors were happy to have the chance to race at a time when Europe has cold temperatures. The entry was impressive with many strong drivers. The Vortex Motorsport pair (Jan Lammers and Tarso Marques) were favourites. The Brazilian crashed but his experienced team-mate led from lights to flag to take victory ahead of polesitter Kenny Bräck. Driving another Reynard 94D - this one entered by Madgwick - the Swede had poor a start and was never able to catch his rival. Despite a quick spin, Bräck secured second place, while third went to Richard Dean, well behind in an old 92D. Gareth Rees and Dino Morelli took the following positions on the time sheet. The first Lola came 6th with Hilton Cowie, who was also the fastest local, after Stephen Watson spun off. The field was completed by several gentlemen-drivers, the best of them being Dominic Chappell who finished ninth.
