Intercollegiate Competition! –1998/1999 In the Fall of 1998, the Men’s Roller Hockey Club of the University of Pennsylvania found itself once again with enough interest to field two complete teams. This season found the first full-time intercollegiate competition for the club. The club organized two teams in a new league spearheaded by the University of Pennsylvania Roller Hockey Club officers, and also competed in several tournaments of a collegiate travel league.
Brendan Brennan and Dan Gabbay worked with a local rink called the Sports Super Center at G & Erie in Philadelphia to setup the inaugural season of the PCRHL (Philadelphia Collegiate Roller Hockey League). Due to the success of the Quaker Cup tournament the previous season, there was quite a bit of interest in this local collegiate league. In total, 11 teams competed from 6 local Universities: U Penn, Drexel U, Temple U, Beaver College, University of Delaware, and Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science. The club fielded one travel team as well that competed in ECRHA (Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association) tournaments in Harrisburg, York, and Baltimore against teams from Penn State, James Madison University, SUNY Brockport, Virginia Tech, PSU Altoona, U Pittsburgh, Kent State, and U Maryland.
The club finished a successful season with an overall collegiate record of 11-11-2, with a 2nd place finish in the PCRHL. 1998-1999 Officers:
