The Uranian Society
A Cultural Forum for Gay Men
The Uranian Society provides a cultural forum for gay men in Adelaide, Australia. Meetings on historical, political, literary and artistic aspects of gay culture are held throughout the year.
The first Uranian Society meeting, held in April 1989, was convened by John Lee and Chris Smith and held at 130 Carrington Street, Adelaide. This meeting attracted a gathering of 15 to hear John Lee speak on "Lampshades and Law Reform: Researching Adelaide's Gay History". The Uranian Society is celebrating its 20th anniversary in April 2009 and its meetings now regularly attract over 40 participants.
Nine meetings are scheduled for 2009, on the last Sunday of the months March through October, and on the second Sunday of December. Most Uranian Society meetings are held at Darling House, 64 Fullarton Road, Norwood.
The organising committee invite gay men to present book, theatre and film reviews, or talk on topics of interest to their community. Please contract the organising committee if you are interested in giving a presentation. The flyer for the next or most recent meeting is shown below.
