travel throughout Europe and the Balkans to entertain and encourage our
American troops following the September 11 terrorist attacks. It was a
great opportunity for me to give back to my country. Having struggled with

California
Ellen Chapman
"I am a pretty even person so you would not expect that I have licked
a banana slug. I was on an outdoor education trip with a sixth grade class
when we discovered an innocent banana slug. He instantly became the celebrity
of our group. I was dared by my students to lick him, and in return, they
all promised to complete their math homework that night. Needless to say,
they hit the books." Ellen, 22, who has brown hair and brow eyes, graduated
from Valley Christian High School in1999 and just finished her Bachelor

love to be like Oprah and really try to help other people improve their
lives."An accomplishment of which I am particularly proud is reflected
in the success of a struggling math student. While I was tutoring her,
she would look at me with such frustration; with my sincere prodding of
her to persevere, she learned how to add double digits! When I saw the
way her eyes lit up, I knew that if I continued to help struggling students,
I could make a difference. I am a well-rounded person who enjoys the outdoors
and competitive sports as much as dressing up for a ball. I have spent
many hours with grease up to my elbows working on my old 1976 Volkswagon
bug and yet in minutes I could be ready for our sorority formal. Whatever
life throws me... I am ready!"
Colorado
Janel Haw
"I consider myself to be all girl. I would rather polish my finger

with brown eyes and brown hair, Janel graduated High School from Aurora
Hinkley High School in1996. She graduated College from University of Northern
Colorado Bachelor of Arts in Human Communication in 2001. "Big Brothers
and Big Sister of Colorado has given me the opportunity to help guide an
individual's life in a positive direction. My little sister and I see each
other on a weekly basis. The Special Olympics of Colorado has a special
place in my heart. The staff and, of course, the participants show their
passion for life and remind me that winning is not everything, but the
attempt is what matters most. "Let me win, but if I can not win, let me
be brave in the attempt" - Special Olympics Motto. The D.A.R.E program
has allowed me to motivate, encourage, and inspire over one thousand 5th
and 6th grade children to stay away from drugs and to choose other alternatives.
I believe that through this program children will choose a healthy way
of living and to say no to drugs. Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
For the past three years I have participated in the Denver "Race for the
Cure" 5k walk. My mother has gone through two surgeries to have lumps removed
from her breasts and I am proud to walk in her honor and for other women
who are fighting the battle. I would love to become a Food and Travel Critic.
Receiving my college education. This is the one asset that no one can ever
take away from me. I cherish that accomplishment the most. I enjoy and
surround myself with a diverse group of people. I believe in the morals
that have been taught to me by my family of staying openminded in order
to live a well rounded life. "We cannot hold a torch to light another's
path without brightening our own." - Ben Sweetland"

District

Tiara Dews
"I don't know if this would be considered crazy, but as I look back,
it may have been a a bit risky. Four years ago, at the Miss Teen USA Pageant,
I made a comment on behalf of myself and the delegates. My comment brought
forth a reaction of tears and appreciation from them. From their reactions,
I fully understood how pageants can bring about unity among women." Tiara
graduated High School from Duke Ellington School of the Arts in 2000. She
also went to study Physics, Computers, Mathematics, Aeronautics at Trade
School 1 and completed it in 1996; She graduated from Hawaii Pacific University

The House DC - a place for youth; Fidos for Freedom, Inc. (Hearing, Service
and Therapy Dogs); Goodwill Industries International, Inc."My dream job
is to become a spokesperson and advocate for cross-generational awareness
of holistic wellness with an emphasis on preventive medicine. At the age
of 13, my friend and I were accosted and attacked by 2 guys with pitbulls.
Despite the fact that her leg was severely mauled, I remained calm to diffuse
and help us escape the attack. In addition, I inspired the District Of
Columbia City Council to help pass legislation for pitbull muzzle laws. The
most important thing that I want people to know about me is that I am evolving
into a spiritual being and I have the desire to see an upsurge in global
spirituality. My definition of spirituality would be more of a peaceful
contentment within one's self." Tiara is 21 years old and has balck hair
and brown eyes.
Florida

When asked what is the craziest thing she has ever done, Kristen said
" Going skydiving! For a person who usually has their feet planted firmly

a modeling career during my time off from school. I lived in New York by
myself while going on auditions and “go sees” and taking classes. My first
year was a disappointment, but I did not give up. I went back two more
years and was very successful. I learned responsibility, independence,
and “stick-to-it-tive-ness.” "I am a determined young woman. I don’t give
up until I feel as though I have accomplished what I have set out to accomplish.
I see every setback as a learning experience and use those as stepping
stones to achieving my goals." Kristin is 22 years old.

to laugh at myself." Caoline hsa brown hair and brown eyes.
Hawaii
Justine Michioka
"Considering the fact that I am afraid of heights, I would have to
say jumping off of a cliff into the ocean has been by far the craziest
thing that I have done! Justine graduated High School from Kapaa High School
in 2000 and has completed her college study in Business Marketing from
Hawaii Pacific University. Charities that she has supported with her time
and/or resources over past two years included: "American Cancer Society.

Idaho
Kimberly Glyn
When asked what is the craziest thing that she has ever done, Kimberly
said: "I once went wakeboarding in April in freshly melted snow water.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone." She is 22 years old and has blonde
hair and and brown eyes. Kimberly graduated High School from Eagle High
School in 2000 and is a graduate of Boise State University with an area
of Study in Neo-Natal Nursing; "As both Miss Idaho USA and a student at
Boise State University, I will be heading up a Boise State walk group for
Walk America to help raise money for premature and low birthweight babies.
I volunteer my time at benefits and fundraisers to raise money for the
American Heart Association. Empowering Youth Esteem is a group comprised
of young adults who focus on speaking to young teens about making positive
choices in their lives and setting goals for their futures. I have been
a member of EYE for six years. I volunteer my time to help organize events
in Boise and the surrounding areas as a member of the March of Dimes logistics
team. Through my church, The Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Boise, I
am able to volunteer my time to various church functions. My love for children
led me to volunteer for two years as the Bible School teacher for 2-3 year
olds. I have had the opportunity to speak at the Boys and Girls Clubs in
my area about goal setting and the rewards for making positive choices
in life. Working with Special Olympics has been a very rewarding experience
for me. From helping organize events, to handing out awards and encouraging
participants, I enjoy every minute of it. Over the past year I have volunteered
my time to the Boise Rescue Mission to help raise money to feed the homeless
and underprivileged. One event that I enjoy every year is helping raise
money for St. Alphonsus Hospital's Life Flight program. These funds ensure
the accessibility of Life Flight services throughout Idaho for those unable
to afford it. Make A Wish is one foundation that I especially enjoy volunteering
for because the impact it has on terminally ill children is immediately
seen. I have been working with Make A Wish to raise funds to grant wishes
to children for many years." "I have always wanted to be a Sports Illustrated
Swimsuit model. I am especially proud of my Miss Congeniality award. I
think it is wonderful to get a judge's vote, but twice as rewarding to
receive a competitor's vote. I am a compassionate and caring person and
I try to demonstrate God's love by helping others. I want people who meet
me to know that I believe in God and I have faith that my life is in His
hands."
Illinois
Molly Graham
"I recently completed an interview and audition for Couples "Fear Factor."
I think the mere thought of having to do some of the things on that show
would be a true test of how "crazy" I can really be!" With brown hair and
hazel eyes, the 24-year-old Molly graduated High School from Davenport
North High School in 1998. The 5 foot 7 graduated Associate of Applied
Science Degree in Nursing from Eastern Iowa Community College in 2000.

Bear Plunge" in Lake Michigan to help benefit and raise money for Special
Olympics; Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as a Fundraiser (recently helped
raise over $230,000 in my community) and volunteer Youth Service Bureau:
Fundraiser. "My dream job would be to be a flavor tester for Ben &
Jerry's Ice Cream! Can you imagine getting paid to eat ice cream all day?
Who would turn that down. The one personal accomplishment that makes me
especially proud is "stepping out of the box" for my patients. I go above
and beyond the norm of nursing care as many are in such critical conditions.
I let each one of them know that they are valued, loved and that God will
comfort them through the power of faith. People should know that I truly
value life. Working in an oncology unit as a Registered Nurse has made
me realize how fragile and unexpected life can be. I have extreme value
for my life and the lives of those around me. I have learned to make every
moment count, no matter how insignificant it may seem at the time. It may
be your last moment with someone you love.
Indiana

the highest bidders! We all had a great time and raised over $500 for the
American Heart Association.Charities that Steffi has supported with her

of the most important people in my life - my family and friends". Steffi
loves playing basketball and eating Ice Cream.
Iowa
Brooke Hansen
"Swimming with sting rays is the craziest thing I have ever done. I
am deathly afraid of slimy things, fish, and salt water, so this was a
worst case scenario. Since I survived, I am glad that I was able to conquer
some of my fears." The 5 foot 4 who has blonde hair and blue eyes graduated
High School from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1999. Brook graduated
a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from University of Iowa
in 2003. Charities that she has supported with her time and/or resources

Wickam Elementary School kindergarten class; Iowa City Montessori Pre-school;
Zeta Tau Alpha Breast Cancer Walk to raise money and promote awareness
of breast cancer Her "dream job" in life would be to become a 2nd Grade
Teacher. "One personal accomplishment which makes me most proud is my strong
inner strength throughout some difficult years. Growing up, my family was
transferred quite often. In high school, I attended three different schools
in a matter of four short years. I remained at the top of my class socially
and academically all four years as well as making the cheerleading squad
every year - two out of four being a captain. In addition, the summer before
my freshman year of college, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Starting
college was difficult, but more so because of my mother's illness. Again
I remained superior in academics as well as was an executive board leader
for my sorority. My mother went into remission for five years and now the
cancer has returned in her bones. I find myself looking death in the face
and reaching again for the strength that I know I received from my mother.
Every day is a battle, yet again I am proud of myself for continuing to
be a leader at work and for the state of Iowa. Thankfully, my accomplishment
of inner strength has led me through all of these trying times. How supportive
my family is. My mom and dad, my twin sister, my brother and all extended
family members will be there for me. Going into the pageant I know that
no matter how I do that they will be my number one fans. One of the judges
from the Miss Iowa USA competition jokingly said after the pageant that
he didn't know what he would have done if I didn't win. I had a huge number
of people at the pageant and they were VERY vocal"
Kansas
Lisa Forbes
"During my freshman year in college, I worked for a local veterinarian
over Christmas break taking care of dogs who were boarded by local residents
while they were out of town. Each morning at 7:00 AM, I had to walk each
dog, clean and scrub down each kennel on my hands and knees, which, trust
me, was not pretty, and then feed each dog. Getting barked at by over 30
dogs and dragged around two-feet-high snow drifts at sub-zero temperatures
was not my idea of the perfect Christmas morning! The 22-year-old beauty
who has brown hair and blue eyes graduated High School from Blue Valley
Northwest High School in 1999 and graduated College and earned Bachelor
of Arts Degree from University of Kansas with the area of study: in Communication
in: 2003.Charities that she has supported with her time and/or resources
over past two years included: Lawrence Humane Society; Heartland Therapeutic
Horseback Riding; Therapeutic Horseback Riding in Lawrence Sunflower House;
Best Buddies; Wayside Waifs Animal Shelter; Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
of Kansas City St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital - Affiliation of
Philanthropic Events through Delta Delta Delta; Natural Ties Jubilee Cafe
- Preparing breakfast for the homeless. "Iff I could have any job I would
choose to ride, train, and show horses for a living. Horses are my number
one passion in life and to be able to make a career out of my passion would
be a "dream come true." "When I was a senior in high school, I had a goal
of competing at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio.
The Quarter Horse Congress is the largest all-breed horse show in the world.
I knew that this goal would be difficult to attain, however, I was determined
to achieve it. I worked every single day after school to pay my equestrian
instructor or "coach" to prepare myself and my horse for competition. With
the help of my mother and traveling companion, we made it to the Congress
that Fall where I made the finals (top 30 of over 250 riders) in three
different events. Competing at this level against the caliber of riders
that I did was an experience I will always be proud of. The most important
thing I want people to know about me is that I am real. What you see is
what you get!"
Kentucky
Lauren Stengel
The craziest thing I have ever done is going snorkeling with sharks
and sting rays in Belize. I was scared at first, but it turned out to be
an unbelievable experience. I got to see and do something new and I had
a great time doing it. Lauren graduated High School from Assumption High
School; Year Completed: 2000. She has just finished College and earn her
Bachelor of Arts degree from: University of Kentucky with the area of study
in Broadcast Journalism in 2004. "Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Center has
given me the chance to help people in recovery. Their Christmas Brunch
with Santa was an amzing opportunity for me to visit with children who
were sick and help to brighten their day. This was a very rewarding time
for me and I hope I was able to help them feel a little better." Her "dream
job" in life would be National news anchor. When asked to name one personal
accomplishment (in addition to being a State Titleholder) that makes her
especially proud, Lauren said: "In high school my dance team won
the 1999 Universal Dance Association National Championship. I have never
worked harder for anything in my life. We won out of 109 teams. It was
the most exciting, the most stressful, and the most memorable moment of
my life. My team and I practiced two times a day everyday before nationals.
This experience helped me realize that hard work and determination really
do pay off. The most important thing I want people to know about me is
that inside I am a very giving, genuine, and humble person. A lot of people
don't see "pageant girls" as being beautiful on the inside. To me this
is much more important than having outside beauty, because it's how you
treat people that truly matters."

their value and worth, to identify their dreams and to fulfill their destinies.
In a three year time span I obtained a Juris Doctorate and a Bachelor of
Civil Law from LSU Law Center, passed the State Bar exam on my first attempt,
and was sworn in to practice law before the Supreme Court of the State

possessions, but for its character and service. I firmly believe one should
esteem a person's heart condition and character, and not his achievements,
education, position, or wealth. One's legacy is truly measured by how one
metes out grace and compassion."

"To raise money for the Pine Tree Camp (a summer camp for disabled
children), I rode a snowmobile with a snowsuit full of over 300 raw eggs!
Every $50.00 that gets donated to the camp is another egg in my snowsuit!
The ride lasted an hour and a half and keep in mind that the temperature
in Maine during the winter does not often get above 15 degrees! Mackenzie
graduated High School from Gardiner Area High School in 1998 and she finished
College from University of Maine with Area of Study in Business Administration

actress. I have always had an interest in Government and have been actively
involved in my church, all of my life. At the age of 15, I decided to run
for a position on my local Episcopal Church government, otherwise known
as the church vestry. After a monthlong campaign, I was elected as one
of the youngest people in the state to hold office on the Episcopal Church
Vestry. It was an honor considering that the average age of the members
is around 45 years old. I am a young woman from a small town who has decided
to not let the limited resources that I have available to me determine
what I am able to do with my life. I have overcome many challenges throughout
my life and I believe that I exemplify what a young American woman should
aspire to be."

they had to remove the door in order to free us. Although I was already

while she was delivering her son. I agreed because I wanted to be a good
friend, not knowing what my eyes were about to witness. I also assisted

I was so mad that when he went to sleep I took his car and hid it a mile
away in another parking lot. Then, when he woke up he thought his vehicle

him an hour later and told him they found his car in the lot up the street.
I laughed at him for days, but he didn't speak to me for weeks." Stacey

accomplishment that I am especially proud of. Growing up I have always
excelled in school and because of that I was able to earn scholarships

myself lucky to be a part of such an organization; Ronald McDonald House
