Brainwave

Real name: Henry (Hank) King, Jr.
Occupation: None
Base of Operations: Mobile
Marital Status: Single
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 172
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Red
First Appearance: ALL-STAR SQUADRON #24 (August, 1983)

Hank King is the son of one of the JSA's most psychotic villains: Henry King, the original Brainwave. His mother was the original Star-Spangled Kid's sister, Merry Pemberton (a.k.a. Merry, Girl of 1000 Gimmicks), a minor super-heroine active during World War II. For reasons yet to be revealed, Merry disappeared when Hank was a small boy, leading him to believe she was dead.
Although Hank inherited his father's telekinetic and telepathic abilities, he had seemingly inherited his mother's values and morals. Hank donned a version of his father's Brainwave costume and, as Brainwave Jr., joined with several other JSA offspring to form the short-lived team Infinity Inc. Determined not to follow in his father's footsteps, Hank gave it his all as a hero, winning the respect of his father's enemies and the affection, for a time, of one of their children (Jade, the daughter of Green Lantern - now Sentinel - Alan Scott).
During a final confrontation with the original Brainwave, Hank's power level was increased tenfold when his father, seemingly performing an act of good will before his death, bestowed Hank with his superior mental powers. With his father's ability to project lifelike three-dimensional images and psionic energy beams, Brainwave is one of the strongest telepaths on Earth.
Recently, Brainwave was committed to Arkham Asylum following several violent mental breakdowns. Shortly after, a confrontation with Sentinel, Jade and Obsidian left Sentinel nearly dead. Brainwave retreated into his mind, seemingly lost forever. It has been speculated the power Brainwave received from his father was the catalyst for his insanity, but this is not entirely true. Something else has been infecting his mind...something powerful. Whatever the source of Hank's sickness, Arkham will not hold Brainwave prisoner much longer.

Director Bones

Real name:
Occupation: Director of the D.E.O.
Base of Operations:
Marital Status: Single
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 165
Eyes: Invisible
Hair: Invisible
First Appearance: INFINITY, INC. #16 (July, 1985)

Director Bones was cursed before he was even born. His mother was an unknowing test subject of twisted geneticist Dr. Benjamin Love. Along with a handful of other expecting mothers, she was treated with an experimental drug that mutated their children in horrible, unexpected ways. Bones was born with invisible musculature and organs - including his skin - making him appear to be a walking skeleton, and by adulthood had developed superhuman strength and a poisonous touch (his sweat is composed of a cyanide compound that kills normal humans on contact). Dr. Love kidnapped Bones and the other newborns and raised them in an isolated desert retreat in northern California, telling the children that their parents had rejected them. After Dr. Love's death, inspired by television reports of the JSA (and the group's inheritors, Infinity, Inc.), Bones and the other children left the retreat and attempted to form their own superhero group, Helix. The misguided team quickly turned to crime but were stopped by Infinity, Inc. Bones was released into Infinity's custody, where he served as an unofficial member until the group was disbanded following the death of Sylvester Pemberton (the original Star-Spangled Kid), who died when Solomon Grundy forced him into contact with Bones' "cyanide touch." Although not directly responsible, Bones is still plagued with guilt over his role in Pemberton's death. Bones disappeared for a short time after Infinity's dissolution, re-emerging as a key player in the government institution called the D.E.O. (the Department of Extranormal Operations). Now the agency's Director (reporting to Secretary of Metahuman Affairs Amanda Waller), it is unknown how Bones joined the organization, and how he will use it for (or against) the JSA.

DR. Mid-Nite

Real name: Dr. Pieter Anton Cross
Occupation: Crime-fighter, former physician
Base of Operations: Portsmouth City
Marital Status: Single
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 175
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Black
First Appearance: DOCTOR MID-NITE #1 (March, 1999)

A prodigy who obtained his medical degree while still in his teens, Pieter Cross was a gifted surgeon, whose inability to work within the system led him outside of established medical circles. As the "Midnight Doctor," Pieter used his great wealth, talent and formidable network of contacts to provide healthcare for a wide range of patients who orthodox medicine had failed.
While investigating the influx of a new and dangerous mutagenic steroid, Dr. Cross was injected with the drug, which interacted randomly with other chemicals in the doctor's bloodstream. As a result, Dr. Cross lost his vision, except while using special goggles of his own creation. Borrowing the identity of a blind costumed adventurer from the 1940's, the new "Doctor Mid-Nite" has dedicated himself to protecting the downtrodden of his city from a continuing series of deadly schemes by the insidious Praeda Industries.
