F-14 Tomcat
The F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine, variable sweep wing,
fighter designed to attack and destroy enemy aircraft in all weather
and in day or night. The F-14 can carry the AIM-54 Phoenix long-
range air-air missile which has a range of over 100 nautical miles.
The F-14 was first flown in 1970, Around 200 are still in service.
All F-14 fighters will be retired before 2010 at a rate of 1 squadron
per year.
